About ProForm:
The 510 E Elliptical is manufactured by ProForm. ProForm is a well-established company in the health and fitness industry. They have a good reputation for delivering highly professional and budget friendly exercise equipment. Besides elliptical machines, they manufacture many other pieces of fitness equipment including rowing machines, treadmills and hybrid trainers.
What We Love About the ProForm 510 E Elliptical:
ProForm provides a number of great features in the 510 E for an entry level elliptical machine. The computer options, inline levels and resistance capabilities are features that aren’t typically found in budget friendly machines. However, while these features are great to have, ProForm obviously had to leave out some of the comfort features that a user would like to have with these options.
Computer Options
The ProForm 510 E Elliptical computer has many options that you don’t typically find on an entry level machine. The 5” display is nice sized and allows for the connection of an iPod® or MP3 player so that you can have some musical motivation while exercising. One of the nicest features is the 18 programmed workouts designed by certified professional trainers that will automatically adjust resistance while you exercise. Finally, the 510 E Elliptical comes iFit® compatible. If you don’t already have a subscription this will run you another $9-10 per month, but this will greatly expand your enjoyment of this elliptical machine.
Resistance
The 510 E Elliptical comes with 18 resistance settings utilizing a silent magnetic resistance system. ProForm puts the controls of resistance into the hands of the user with simple automated controls. The user can increase and decrease intensity to suit their energy and experience levels to maximize their workouts and elevate their heart rate.
Stride Length & Incline
The stride length options n the ProForm 510 E Elliptical can fit a wide range of users. The stride can be adjusted up to 20 inches that accommodate multiple users. The incline can also be adjusted up to 20° in five different settings. This allows users to have a variety of different exercise intensities and the ability to work out a many different muscle groups.
What Isn’t So Great:
Assembly seems to be hit or miss with reviewers. Some reviewers state the assembly was simple and took only an hour. Other reviewers claimed assembly took over three hours, took multiple people to assemble and that customer service was nearly impossible to reach for assistance. Most concerning, however, is that a couple reviewers who purchased the 510 E Elliptical from distributors outside of ProForm claimed that parts came damaged, which prohibited them from even assembling the machine.
Many users listed the noise of the machine as a major downfall of the ProForm 510 E Elliptical. It is said that the plastic parts and coverings become loud during workouts. It appears that that ProForm may know something about the noise of the machine as it supplies a generous amount of lubricant with the machine. Many reviewers complaining of the noise of the elliptical machine cautioned future buyers to make sure they lubricate the parts very well during the assembly and continue to maintain the machine between workouts.
Most of the design features of the ProForm 510 E Elliptical aren’t exactly designed for the comfort of the user; mainly the incline feature. While is does provide up to 20° of incline, which is awesome, the user must manually adjust the incline. This is inconvenient as it doesn’t allow for a continuous workout if you want your incline intensity to adjust throughout your exercise. Another comfort that is missing is that while again the 510 E Elliptical has good settings for stride length, many users complained that the movement left something to be desired. Many users felt the movement of the machine can feel choppy and more like a stepper than an elliptical machine.
Final Word on the ProForm 510 E Elliptical:
The ProForm 510 E Elliptical is a good buy. For an entry level elliptical machine you are getting a lot of great features in the computer, resistance and incline. The main downfall is that while you are getting a lot of features that you typically don’t get in an entry level machine, they aren’t designed with the best user comfort in mind.
