Schwinn 230 Recumbent Bike

Schwinn 230 Recumbent BikeOverview:

The Schwinn 230 Recumbent Bike is an excellent, mid-range, name-brand piece of exercise equipment that has everything you need to get toned and lose weight, and doing it all in maximum comfort. While the 230 Recumbent Bike is a slimmed down model of the higher-end 270 Schwinn model, it still outranks other recumbent bikes in this price range.

The Schwinn 230 Recumbent Bike comes with 20 levels of resistance and 22 workout programs (only 5 less resistance levels and 7 less programmed workouts than the 270 Recumbent Bike). It’s missing Bluetooth capability of the 270 Schwinn and the ability to use a heart rate chest strap monitor. But other than that, this recumbent exercise bike is almost identical to the higher-end Schwinn model. You get the connectivity of mobile devices and ability to access Schwinn Connect. This kind of slimmed down recumbent bikes are often the way to go especially if you aren’t in desperate need of Bluetooth or an overkill of resistance levels and workout programs. Plus it’s probably going to save you around $200.

Schwinn 230 Recumbent BikeManufacturer Background:

Schwinn® was founded in 1895 and since then has been icon in the bicycle, recreation product, and home and commercial fitness worlds. The company was founded in Chicago by Ignaz Schwinn and his partner Adolph Arnold. Schwinn® led innovation in the bicycle industry with several firsts including the bicycle balloon tire in 1933, Cyclelock®, a bicycle theft solution in 1935, and in 1938 the fore-wheel brake, cantilever frame and the spring fork, which are the predecessor of today’s mountain bikes. In 1965, Schwinn introduced their first in-home workout machines and today they feature full lines of upright bikes, recumbent bikes, steppers, treadmills, elliptical and home gyms.

What We Love About the Schwinn 230 Recumbent Bike:

The Schwinn 230 Recumbent Bike has everything someone needs to have a great bike, an intense workout, and enjoyable exercises. It has an excellent console with many workouts and the ability to download exercise data. It also keeps you connected with its media shelf and app connectivity. Finally, with the Schwinn name you’re getting the quality that only a 100-year-old manufacturer can provide.

Console

The Schwinn 230 Recumbent Bike has a great console for a mid-range bike. It has 22Schwinn 230 Recumbent Exercise Bike programmed workouts. The 230 Recumbent Bike also allows you to download your exercise data so that you can track your performance from workout to workout. The programmed workouts provide an enjoyable exercise experience and allow you to choose your intensity from fun workouts to more strenuous hill and mountain rides. The workouts we like best, however, are the challenging workouts that really get the heart rate up.

Quality

In our opinion, there are only a few companies that you can base a buying decision strictly on the name; Schwinn is one of those. With Schwinn you get over 100 years of cycling experience that goes into the design and function of the 230 Recumbent Bike. You get some great design features like high-speed, high-inertia perimeter weighted flywheel and 20 levels of Eddy Current Brake resistance. Schwinn also backs up the 230 Recumbent Bike with a nice 10 year warranty.

Schwinn 230 Recumbent BikeWhat Isn’t So Great:

We already discussed the fact that the Schwinn 230 is a slimmed down version of the Schwinn 270 so it’s not really a drawback, but we still wish you could use a heart rate chest strap monitor with it. Overall it’s not really a big deal since the bike is equipped with handgrips on either side of the seat to monitor your pulse. This will require you to hold onto the grips for 15-30 seconds to get an accurate reading throughout your heart rate workouts. Most bikes in this price range also have the same issue. The only way to get a chest strap and functionality is to pay extra $200-300 for a higher end recumbent bike.

Final Word on the Schwinn 230 Recumbent Bike:

At around $400 the Schwinn 230 Recumbent Bike is a great piece of exercise equipment. This bike honestly has better features than some bikes costing $1,000 more. It compares to the more expensive Diamondback 510SR. The 230 Recumbent Bike has a great console loaded with programmed workouts and the ability to download exercise data. Best of all, it is Schwinn quality and built to last. For the money, we highly recommend the Schwinn 230.
