Xterra Fitness ERG200 Folding Magnetic Resistance Rower Review

Last Updated on February 12, 2021 by Jeff

Xterra Fitness ERG200 Folding Magnetic Resistance Rower Overview:

The Xterra Fitness ERG200 Folding Magnetic Resistance Rower is the most affordable option in the Xterra Fitness ERG rowers line. There are several other models including the ERG 400, 500 and 700 rower models. The ERG200 uses aluminum clad side rails and magnetic resistance to provide a smooth rowing motion. Easily adjustable through eight levels of resistance, this model allows you to work toward pre-programmed goals for time, distance, count or calories burned.

The seat is large and contoured for extra comfort and the pedals are adjustable so that they are at the right angle for proper rowing form. Velcro straps on the pedal help keep your feet safely in place while rowing. The large LCD monitor can also be angled for easy viewing during use.

Shipping and Assembly:

Shipping costs will depend on where you buy your Xterra Fitness ERG200 Rower. It may also depend on the type and speed of the delivery that you choose. Free shipping options will keep your costs down.

The ERG200 is relatively easy to put together, however some vendors do offer optional professional assembly services. An instruction manual with diagrams is included and should be easy to follow for anyone with basic tools and assembly skills.

What we Love About the Xterra Fitness ERG200 Rower:

Easy to Move and Store

Whether you are moving your rower every time you use it or just need to move it for cleaning, it is always better to be able to do so easily. The ERG200 comes with transport wheels that allow for easy moving. It folds to a compact size for storage but remains stable when unfolded.

Programming

Choosing one of the preset programs gives you a challenge to work toward and can be adjusted as you get stronger or to challenge endurance and stamina. These programs allow you to have a concrete goal in mind as soon as you sit down on the seat.

Adjustable Pedals and Monitor Angles for Improved Comfort

The ability to set the pedals and monitor for comfort ensures that you don’t start relying on poor form during your training session. Velcro straps allow you to strap your feet in for added safety and security.

Other Considerations:

Limited Resistance

There are only eight levels of resistance for this rower, making it better for the beginner to lower level intermediate trainee. Some may quickly progress to the upper end and fail to be challenged any further by this rower.

Not Meant for Very Tall or Large Trainees

With a weight limit of 250 lbs and a height limit of 6’2”, the ERG200 is limited for many users. Unfortunately, the next model up in this series has the same limits. The ERG500 goes to 300 lbs, while the ERG700 can handle trainees up to 350 lbs. However, both of these models are much more expensive than the ERG200.

How the Xterra Fitness ERG200 Compares to the Other ERG Models

All four of the Xterra ERG rowers fold for convenience. All come with a monitor however, the monitor on the ERG 400 and 500 models is considerably smaller than the ERG200. All have preset programs with the ERG200 and 500 using the same programs. Both of these models also have resistance that is manually adjusted, while the ERG400 and 700 models have electronic resistance adjustments. All but the ERG700 are the same size both in use and while folded. The ERG200 is the lightest model at just over 55 lbs.

All four models allow adjustment of the console for better viewing. None of the four provide alternative exercises or uses. They are all dedicated rowers.

Final Word on the Xterra Fitness ERG200 Folding Rower:

For a beginner trainee or for a more experienced trainee that is looking for a traditional cardio workout, this is the perfect model. It is priced right, has decent features and is foldable for convenient storage. However, for trainees that want to build strength, or are looking to increase their rowing skills, this may not be the right machine. With only eight levels of resistance, it may be quickly outgrown, especially for someone who is skilled or fairly strong already.

For the right trainee, it is the perfect low-impact, cardio boosting workout and should fit comfortably in the average home gym or workout area without a problem. It does sit fairly low to the ground, which may make it a bother for some people to get on and off, of especially for people with lower back, knee or hip issues.

Solidly built and fairly easy to put together, the Xterra Fitness ERG200 is a highly recommended machine for beginners or cardio buffs.
