Power Breakfast Smoothie #1

Last Updated on March 17, 2015 by Jeff

This great tasting breakfast smoothie basically has it all you need in a complete meal:  clean protein, healthy fats, complex carbs, and a lot of fiber. Plus it has a dose of green leaf veggies in the spinach, and a dose of matcha green tea for the polyphenols (and a little caffeine boost).  Here’s the full recipe:

  • 1/2 small avocado
  • 4 tbsp whey protein powder (Blue Bonnet Vanilla Whey Protein)
  • 2 tbsp hemp protein powder (Trader Joe’s Hemp Protein)
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries (Trader Joe’s Organic Blueberries)
  • 1/4 cup spinach (Trader Joe’s frozen spinach)
  • 1 tsp matcha green tea (Aiya Organic Ceremonial Grade Matcha Green Tea)

You can substitute any brands for the ingredients.  Those are just the brands that I prefer.

Here’s the nutritional profile:

4 tbsp whey protein powder (Blue Bonnet Natural Whey Protein Isolate) (17 grams = 1/2 “scoop”) 62 13 0.25 1 0

1/2 cup frozen blueberries (Trader Joe’s Organic Blueberries) 80 0.25 0 18 4
1/4 cup spinach (Trader Joe’s frozen spinach) 5 0 0 0.5 0.5
1 tsp matcha green tea (Aiya Organic Ceremonial Grade Matcha Green Tea) 0 0 0 0 0
 Totals: 327 19.25 11.25 33.5 15.5

This breakfast smoothie will most likely keep you full until lunch time.  Your daily nutritional requirements vary based on weight, sex, etc, of course, but this smoothie generally has around half of your daily intake of fiber and 1/3 your daily protein.  The avocado fats will make your brain happy, and a little green tea will give you some welcome alertness with its natural caffeine and theanine combo.  breakfast smoothie

The best part about this smoothie is that it takes less than 5 minutes to make it.  In fact it will probably only take you about 3 minutes.  Compare that to waiting in line for a bagel and coffee at the coffee shop, or making bacon, eggs and toast at home.  The nutritional content of this breakfast protein smoothie recipe is leaps and bounds better than those old favorites.  You might think you’re saving time by swinging by the coffee shop, but all you’re doing is short changing your health.

All of the above ingredients can be found on Amazon and if you have them lined up on your kitchen counter (the non perishable ones anyway), it’s super easy to dump each ingredient from the breakfast smoothie recipe into your blender or Magic Bullet.  You won’t feel the normal crash and you will be alert and energized for hours.  Enjoy!
